Artist Bio

Born in 1998 and raised in Flowery Branch Georgia, artist Blake Carter began his career in photography, working as a portrait photographer and heading two divisions for Life Touch Studios. After returning to school in 2020, Blake was exposed to a sculpture course that changed the trajectory of his life. Today Carter works primarily in ceramics while also utilizing metal and stained glass (among other materials) to produce sculpture and functional ware. Blake is currently pursuing his bachelor’s in fine arts with a focus in sculpture and ceramics. His work is largely inspired by the Intentional Living Movement and his surrounding community, drawing on historical practices of Georgia pottery to speak to modern community building.

Carter apprenticed in the foothills of North Georgia learning from the traditional potters at Mark of the Potter. Carter’s work has been featured most recently in Sautee Nacoochee at a house potter exhibition hosted by Mark of the Potter. He was also awarded best in show at the University of North Georgia's Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition in 2024.

Carter supported his peers working as the ceramic studio assistant ton Professor Alex Kraft, at the University of North Georgia during the fall of 2025. They've also volunteered and worked as an organizer and participant for Pottery Palooza, a student-run fundraising event. Following his graduation in May 2026, Blake plans to further his education in ceramics and sculpture and is currently applying to several artists residences abroad.
